May 2015 : Mac Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
Well, I was going to post episode 2 of Eyeshadows, Eyeshadows, Eyeshadows, but this new MAC foundation came out of left field this week. It just so happens that I have been in the market for a new foundation since I finished my MAC studio sculpt, so I decided to put the newbie on the block to the test.
Actually, I went to buy it yesterday after work at Myers, however the SA thought it best that I try it beforehand as I have super dry skin and warned that the foundation could hang on to dry spots throughout the day. Naturally, I obliged and took home a little tester pot of the foundation in NW20. That's not quite true. I made a pit stop at the Estée Lauder counter and got a sample of the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup.
Yes, I am going to pit both foundations against eachother and purchase the winner. But for the moment, back to the competitor at hand.
MAC describes the foundation as 'a tenacious waterproof formula that can be worn as a foundation or concealer, wearing for an unprecedented 16 hours... a medium to full weightless coverage and a natural satin finish.'

Ready....
So now comes the test... I am going to preface this by saying that I took these photos on a Saturday at 7.00am after a long week at the office staring at a computer all day... plus I'm 34 and nature is kicking me with full force. I'm not really one for the falsies ie. lashes, brows, collagen, botox etc as some people my age (or...shudder...younger) are, mostly because I don't have the time, money and at this stage, like to keep it as natural as possible. After seeing my photos, you might think this unwise of me....
In terms of my skin stats, I have super dry skin which also gets dehydrated in the office environment hence causing really bad black circles under the eyes. I have been moisturising since I was a baby, however, I didn't realise until late teens that even people with dry skin can get terrible under the skin painful acne-like pimples. I remember being told by a Nutrimetics Consultant that I indeed did need to have a beauty regime despite the dry skin. In fact, I remember her saying that not taking your makeup off properly before bed is akin to eating cheezels and not washing your hands. Put like that I could see her point. So since that day I have invested a mint in skin care and 'cleanse, tone and moisturise' has been my mantra!
This morning I did the usual of cleansing in the shower, dabbing on some eye crème for the crows feet, a few drops of Santal oil for deep moisture, a layer or two of my pharmaceutical strength moisturiser (which is awesome by the way) followed by my MAC Prep + Prime Moisture Infusion serum. So this is me in the morning, with the remnants of a hideous coldsore scar and no flash cos that just added insult to injury. Please don't judge!

Set...
Now that hideous step is out the way (just trying to keep it real guys), lets get to the foundation. I was told in store that it should be applied with the Foundation Brush (#193 I think), but I didn't have it so it was just the fingers. It blended quite well with very little product and didn't take all that much to build.

I then decided to put on a little concealer, MAC Select Moisture Cover, YSL Touche Éclat, and a loose powder I had left over from my Nutrimetics days.

Go!
Next step is the usual, blush, eyes, lips and a little more Touch Éclat for good measure. I used two out of the three of the first eyeshadows I bought (Ricepaper and Wedge), plus some Satin Taupe, Brun and Vanilla. By this stage I was getting a little time poor, but took some with and without flash shots to see how the foundation comes up in both lights.

Wrap up
Well, so far so good. I have been to an 8.30am netball game in 10 degree windy weather, out to the shops, had lunch and written this up for you, so that takes it to about 7.5 hours. It is still feeling pretty comfortable to wear and doesn't seem to have budged. I think it photographs pretty well with a flash (some say the Double Wear makes you look really strangely white in photos, but we'll see that later!) and gives pretty good coverage. I'll see tonight how it comes off and update. Hopefully I won't be going to bed with remnants of proverbial cheezle powder on my fingers!
