For years I had admired girls with beautiful and flawlessly blended eyeshadow. Each time I asked what brand they used, the response would always be MAC. So one day last year I decided to join the fold of flawlessly eyeshadowed and bought my first Pro-Palette.
Why the palette? Basically I wanted to pick and choose the shades, finding that whenever I had a pre-blended palette I would always end up only using a few colours. What a waste. Plus, the refill pans are quite a bit cheaper than buying in the little container. The only drawback is that you can only buy the refills online or in a MAC Pro Store, which basically means you either go into a regular store nearby, choose your shades then buy online, or prepare to bulk buy in a Pro Store. Given that I live pretty much in the country, this is what I usually do.
My first trip into the MAC Pro Store was a little daunting. I was slightly apprehensive at first because whenever I visited the MAC counter in the Myer CBD store it always seemed to be flanked with really full on (and slightly scary) sales assistants and/or customers. In addition, I had no idea what I wanted, what would look good on me (I'm very fair skinned with strawberry blonde hair) and basically, where to start. Soooo many shades! Anyway, I enlisted the help of one of the male sales assistants (who was very helpful and not at all scary) and bought my first three shades. Not very daring ones, I must say : Ricepaper, Wedge and Sketch. The SA tried to get me to go for a black, but as a newbie I shied away from that suggestion. These are the shades I came away with... not that adventurous but a pretty good start!

Wedge: a rather neutral taupe brown which makes me think of praline - it's good in the middle! A matte finish which blends well with more dominating colours.
Sketch: a velvety deep shiraz with a lot of tannin. It looks sparkly in the pan but not so much when used. Good for a bit of depth.
So they were my first eyeshadow purchases as a MAC convertee! I wasn't so sure how these shades would go together so I quickly headed over to David Jones to buy a couple more using a gift card courtesy of some stray frequent flyer points. All will be unveiled in the next episode, which includes a nail-biting de-panning...
Stay tuned!
